Sharm El Sheikh: the complete guide for travellers from Tbilisi (2026)

Areas, hotel types, excursions, visa, money and 10 tips you should know before your first arrival.

Sharm El Sheikh beach at sunset

Sharm El Sheikh has been the number one beach destination for Georgian travellers for years — and the reason is simple: a 3.5-hour direct flight, a year-round season and All Inclusive hotels where you know the budget in advance. This guide covers everything you need before your first trip.

Areas: where to stay

  • Naama Bay — the "heart" of town: restaurants, bars and the market within walking distance. Good if you want evening strolls.
  • Sharks Bay — quieter, big luxury resorts, close to the airport. The best reefs.
  • Nabq — the northernmost, windy, sandy beaches, convenient with children; 20–30 minutes to town.
  • Ras Um El Sid — a rocky bay by the old town, one of the best snorkelling spots.
  • Hadaba — a hill with views, more affordable prices.

Reef or sand?

Most of Sharm's coast is coral reef — you enter the sea from a pontoon, but with a mask you see fish within 5 metres. If you travel with small children, look for hotels with a sandy lagoon in Nabq and Sharks Bay, or consider Hurghada.

Excursions worth doing

  • Ras Mohammed — national park, snorkelling from a boat. ~30 USD.
  • Tiran Island — by yacht, with lunch. ~35 USD.
  • Desert safari — quad bikes + Bedouin dinner. ~30 USD.
  • Cairo by plane — pyramids, Sphinx, museum. ~250 USD, full day.
  • Petra (Jordan) — by ferry to Aqaba. ~300 USD.

Visa and money

Visa on arrival at the airport ~25 USD (have the exact amount in cash dollars). The local currency is the Egyptian pound, but dollars are accepted everywhere. ATMs are in hotels and Naama Bay.

10 tips

  • SPF 50 sunscreen — even in winter.
  • Bring your own mask and fins — rental is 5–10 USD/day.
  • Agree taxi prices in advance outside the hotel, or use Uber/Careem.
  • Don't drink tap water; bottled water in the hotel is free.
  • A 1 USD tip for hotel staff — service really does get better.
  • Never stand on the reef — fines and damage.
  • Uber works in Sharm, but not from the airport — the transfer is in our package.
  • Alcohol outside the hotel is expensive and sold in few places.
  • Haggle at the market — 30–40% of the starting price.
  • Friday is the day of rest; some places open late.
